Weekly Updates Week 10: More Animations Updates
Last week we showcased the scavenger and uprooter, two more enemies that the player will encounter in Kinfallen Forest. For this week, we are introducing a collectible item and gameplay mechanic integral to Yami.
Memory Fragments are shards of collected thoughts and memories of former citizens of the ancient Yami Empire, which have been scattered around Kinfallen Forest and the lands beyond. These can be found in various hidden locations throughout the map, where players have the potential to read optional lore and insight into the Yami world. Collecting a full set reveals the entire story of the collected memories of that lost individual.
(Animations of various memory fragments).
Portals will be a major component of gameplay in Yami, where players will maneuver the brothers Yuyo and Yuki in order to solve puzzles and teleport to new locations. Once used by the Yami Empire of old to transport its citizens and resources, many are now in disrepair, but the brothers are able to use the few remaining to navigate through the world of Raum.
(Animations of portal being used and idle).
*Note that animations and concepts may not be final.
The Yami Demo:
Our team has been working tirelessly to provide a demo of Yami for the public to play and enjoy, and Tumultuous Productions has made great strides in having the demo out soon! Shown below are still-frames of Yami gameplay featuring the two brothers Yuyo and Yuki as well as two enemies the player will encounter when traversing both the demo and full game.
Weekly Member Spotlight:
For our tenth DevLog, we interviewed the one and only Jin, lead director of Tumultuous Productions and Yami as well as an incredibly talented coder. We asked him to elaborate on his process of leading and coding, as well as provide more details about this mysterious individual.
Q: What's it like leading Tumultuous Productions?
A: “Leading the group is like being a parent. You have to make sure the best is given to your family.
You help the child when it's having trouble and you have to nurture and help prop it up when it runs into problems.”
Q: What is your favorite video game and why?
A: “Ori and the blind forest or Ocarina of time it’s tied as they both have compelling stories and Ori recently because of the amazing 2d Visuals and I have always had a soft spot for Metroidvanias.”
Q: What is the most difficult aspect of coding?
A: “Looking for a damn misplaced semicolon or when Unity likes to act up and a normally working code doesn't work and you’re pulling your hair out trying to figure it out when all you needed to do was reset Unity lol.”
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself!
A: “I am 10 foot tall and bullet-proof... Just kidding I am 6'4" and I really enjoy making video games, more that I like playing them. I also plan to give all the proceeds back to the team and only use some to pay for what I put into it myself as the team members are very talented and deserve the world. I would be happy to see this game do really well but that’s mainly for the talented team members we have!”
Q: What aspects do you believe makes a game truly immersive for a player?
A: “Immersion is Visual and story. If you do not have a compelling story and have great visuals and mechanics it will take away from the game. I know from our story and our talented group we will bring some great work to the fans!”
